Mahamaya Girls College doing well in cricket

Mahamaya Girls College, Kandy established in 1932 is one of the Best Schools in the island in education as well as in sports at present. The main sport in the school is undoubtedly swimming, in which the school has become all island champions for the last 16 years. Other than swimming the school has outstanding teams in cricket, hockey, netball, table tennis chess and basketball.

Mahamaya Girls School is one of the few schools in the province playing softball as well as hardball cricket. Cricket became popular at Mahamaya in the year 1985 when Nita Pilapitiya was the Principal and at that time there were two teams captained by Thusara Tennakoon and Manjula Kalpage respectively.

Thushara is the sister of former skipper of Dharmaraja College cricket team and NCC cricketer Thilina Tennakoon. Manjula is the sister of former Sri Lanka Test player Ruwan Kalpage from there onwards cricket continued at Mahamaya under the captaincy of Yasamali Hettiarachchi and Shalika Gannoruwa.

Under Yasamali’s captaincy Mahamaya Girls College won the Kandy Mayor’s Cup Softball Cricket Tournament beating Swarnamali Balika in the finals in the mid nineties under Shalika Gannoruwa.

Mahamaya became 3rd in hardball cricket in 2008 in which Anuradhapura team became champions and Kegalle team became runners-up. Shalika is the daughter of Ajith Gannoruwa, former cricketer of Dharmaraja College and Central Province in the late sixties.

For any sport to thrive specially at school level the sport must have the backing of the school authorities. The sports loving Principal of Mahamaya Indra Withanachchi along with the Deputy Principals Vishaka Herath, Uthpala Seneviratne, Himali Senadheera and the Prefect of Games Dhamika Mahawattaghe are giving all the support to the school cricketers.

The school cricket net is used for hardball cricket while the Wewasiri Grounds is used for softball cricket and for hardball cricket fielding coaching is handled by the old girls and they have monthly coaching programmes under the district cricket coaches.

The present school cricket captain is Dedunu Bhagya and under her captaincy Mahamaya Girls College qualified for the last tape ball cricket tournament conducted by Sri Lanka Cricket.

There are two cricket teams ie. Under 15 and over 15 and they are hoping to play friendly matches with other school in hardball and tape ball cricket.

Dharmaraja Scouts create history with a Guinness World Record

The 1st Kandy Dharmaraja Scout Group marked the Centenary of Scouting, with a setting-up of a Guinness World Record by creating the world's largest neckerchief, measuring 53.7m x 37.1 m (176 ft 2.4 inches x 125 ft 8.4 inches x 121 ft 8.4 inches) and the world's largest woggle, measuring 1.03m (3 ft 4.55 inches) in diameter and 1m (3 ft 3.37 inches) in height. This record was measured at the Dharmaraja College, Kandy in February 2014 by the official record adjudicators authorized to verify the authenticity of the setting and breaking of records employed by the Organisation of Guinness World Records.

In addition to the World Record, 1st Kandy Scouts were awarded the Sri Lanka's 'Best Scout Group Award', consecutively won by them for three years from 2009 to 2011, at the Annual Awards Ceremony organised by the Sri Lanka Scout Association, recently at the Royal College, Colombo.

CENTENNIAL ROCKS - CENTENNIAL RALLY OF KINGSWOOD SCOUTS

23rd to 26th October 2014

Organized by the 2nd Kandy Scout Troop, Kingswood College,Kandy

Introduction

     The 2nd Kandy Scout Troop was found on 4th of March 1914 is celebrating its’ centenary year of scouting this year. Continuing such a long tradition for 100 years is truly a remarkable achievement. The Kingswood Scout Troop known all around the country as well as in South Asia for its, remarkable achievement of hosting the oldest memorial Hike in South Asia and most probably in Asia the J.J.P.Dehigama Memorial Orienteering Competition.

So without doubt it is clear that Kingswood Scouts are not strangers to hiking. While celebrating 100 years of scouting we have reached another significant milestone in the J.J.P.Dehigama competition since we are going to host it for the 30th time this year.

Taking all these to account the Kingswood Scout Troop is ready to present the Scouts and Guides all around Sri Lanka a brand new experience. To celebrate the centenary year we are ready to host a 4 day program of hikes. The program will include a Night hike, a Survival Hike, water activities and the 30th J.J.P. Dehigma competition to conclude. A detailed description of the program, its structure time line is given in this document. We Hope your support in making this event a success.

The Program by Days

     It will be a four day program which will consist of 4 hikes with full of movements of adventure, Knowledge, thinking, commitments, power, teamwork, surviving, funny, culture and nature. The event is named as Centennial ROCKS and this will definitely be a major landmark in Sri Lankan Scouting history. 

☼  Day 1 - (23rd of October 2014)	:  Arrival of Scouts , opening ceremony and the Night Hike
☼  Day 2 - (24th of October 2014)	:  The Survival Hike
☼  Day 3 - (25th of October 2014)	:  Arrival Of Girl Guides and Scouts and the Water Hike
☼  Day 4 - (26th of October 2014)	:  30th J.J.P. Dehigama Orienteering Competition and the Closing  Ceremony.

The Objectives

     Running through the history 2nd Kandy Kingswood Scout troop have passed many important landmarks and at present it’s reaching the utmost milestone to complete 100 years of scouting which we will celebrate in 2014 in a grand manner by letting Sri Lankan scouts and Sri Lankan guides to experience a festival of hikes filled with adventure, explorations and knowledge. As per our theme we wish to recall pure scouting techniques which BP introduced and strengthen the scouting science for generate a strong youth generation to win modern challenges in the world. Hence summarizing objectives of the project are as follows,

හතරවටින් ඇඳිරි වැටීගෙන එද්දී කොළඹ බණ්ඩාරනායක ජාත්යන්තර අනුස්මරණ ශාලාවේ පුටුවකට බර දුන්නේ, රටේ බුද්ධිමත් පිරිසක් අභිෂේක ලබන හැටි දකින්නටය. ඒ ඉකුත් ජුනි 11 දිනය. වේලාව සවස 4.40 ට පමණ විය. කොළඹ විශ්වවිද්යාලයේ ආයුර්වේද වෛද්ය පීඨයේත්, නීති පීඨයේත්, වෛද්ය පීඨයේත් බුද්ධිමත් දරුවන් උපාධි ලබන මොහොතය.

මහා දැනුම් සම්භාරයකින් සුපෝෂිත ජ්යෙෂ්ඨ ශ්රෝෂ්ඨ විද්වතුන් දෑස් අයා බලා සිටියේ, රටේ වැජඹෙන බුද්ධිමතුන් කවුරුද කියාය.

උපාධි ප්රදානය අතරතුරදී, නීති පීඨයේ සුවිශේෂි දක්ෂතා සපුරාලු දරු දැරියෝ කුසලාන රන් පදක්කම් හිමි කර ගන්නට වූහ. ඒ අතරේ නිතර නිතර වරින් වර, එකම නමක හ`ඩ ඇසෙන්නටද විය. නමෙහි හිමිකරුවාගේ සුවිශේෂී බවක්ද වූයෙන්, සියල්ලෝම අයාගත් දෑසින් වේදිකාවට වරින් වර පැමිණි තරුණයා පිළිබ`දව විමසිලිමත් වූහ.
උරුමයක්මය. නීති පීඨයේ ගෙවූ වසර හතරක කාලය තුළ සුවිශේෂී දක්ෂතා දැක් වූවන් වෙනුවෙන් ලබාදෙන පදක්කම් සහ ත්යාග එකොළාහෙන් දහයකම හිමිකරුවා වූයේ දෘශ්යාබාධිත ඩී. සුපුන් රෂින්ද ජයවර්ධනය.

දහවන වරටත් වේදිකාව මතට ගොඩවෙමින් නීති පීඨයේ විශිෂ්ටතම ශිෂ්යා ස`දහා පිරිනමන නීති පීඨ පීඨාධිපති සම්මානය සහ රන් පදක්කම ලැබූ සුපුන් ජයවර්ධන වෙත මුළුමහත් ජනතා ප්රසාදය ලැබූ අයුරු සිහිවන මේ දැනුදු ප්රහර්ෂයක් ඉපදෙන්නේය.

මුළුමහත් ප්රේක්ෂක ජනතාවට අසුනින් නැගිට අත්පොලසන් දුන්නේ නෙත`ග කඳුළු පුරවාගෙනය. ඒ සතුටු කඳුළු දකින්නට සුපුන්ට හැකි වූවා නම්, මොනතරම් භාග්යයක් දැයි සිත් වු වාර අපමණය.


දැස් පෙනෙන දරුවන් දෙසිය හතළිස් දෙනෙකු සම`ග මේ සා පුදුමය දනවන දක්ෂතා දැක්වු දෑස නොපෙනෙන දරුවා කවුද?

වික්රමසිංහ ජයවර්ධන සහ චන්දිය සාරදා නඩුවත්ත යුවලට 1989 අප්රේල් තුන්වැනිදා කුළුඳුලේ උපන් දරුවා සුමුදුය. අඩුබර සහිත උපතක් බැවින් උපන් මොහොතේම දෙමව්පියන් දෑස් දුක් ක`දුළින් තෙමා පැමිණි සුමුදු අද ඒ සිව්නෙත් සතුටු කඳුළින් පුරවා ඇත. 

"පුතා ඉපදෙනකොට මහත්තයා හිටියේ ඕමානයේ රැකියාවක. පුතාට මාස තුනක් ගතවූවාට පසුව මම පුතාත් අරන් ඕමානයට ගියා. පුතාව දැකලා මහත්තයා කිව්වා පුතාගේ ඇස්වල සුද ඇවිත් වගේ කියලා. මම ආපහු පුතා එක්ක ලංකාවට ආවා. ඇස් පිළිබ`ද විශේෂ" වෛද්යවරයෙක් වන වෛද්ය සීමන්ට පුතා පෙන්නුවා. ශල්යකර්මයක් කළා. ඝනකම වැඩි සුද ඒමක් නිසා පෙනීම තරමක් අහිමිවන බව වෛද්යවරයා කිව්වා. අපි දෙන්නා හිතට වීර්යය අරගෙන පුතාව බලාගත්තා. අලවතුගොඩ කොනගල තමයි පුතා පුංචි කාලේ අපි පදිංචි වෙලා හිටියේ. ගෙදර අවට හිටපු හැමෝම පුතාට ගොඩාක් ආදරය කළා. උදව් කළා. කවුරුත් පුතා දිහා අසරණ විදිහට බැලුවේ නැහැ. පුතාට හැමෝම දිරිය දුන්නා. ඒක එයාට ලොකු ශක්තියක් වෙන්න ඇති. අද මට දැනෙන්නේ මේ ලෝකෙට උතුම් පුතෙක් බිහිකළා කියන උත්තරීතර හැ`ගීම පමණයි."

සුමුදුගේ අම්මා සැබෑම ධාරක ස්නේහයෙන් පැවසුවාය. 

සුමුදු ළ`ග හෙවනැල්ලක් වගේ දැවටි දැවටී හො`ද නරක සියුම් ලෙස පෙන්වා දෙමින් රැ`දුනේ මවයි. ඇයගේ සිහිනය වුයේ සුමුදු සියල්ල අභිභවාලු අයෙකු හෝ මහා ලොක්කෙකු කිරීම නොවේ. මේ සමාජයේ සෙස්සන් සම`ග ජීවත්වන හො`ද මිනිසෙකු කිරීම පමණකි. යහපත් ෙච්තනාව යහපත් පුද්ගලයෙකු බිහිකිරීම උදව්වන්නා සේ, ඇයට අද ලොවක් දන්නා බුද්ධිමත් පුතෙක් හිමි වී තිබේ.

ඊට සුමුදුට ශක්තිය ගෙන ආවේ, සුමුදුගේ පියා වන වික්රමසිංහ ජයවර්ධනය.

"පුතාගේ පෙනීම ටිකෙන් ටික අඩුවෙලා යන බව වෛද්යවරයා අපට ඉ`ගිකළා. පුංචිම කාලේ උනත් එයාට පෙනීම හරියට තිබුණෙ නැහැ. නමුත් මමත් නෝනාත් එයාට හැමදේම කියලා දුන්නා. ඒ වයසේ සිටින සෙසු දරුවන්ට සාපේක්ෂව අකුරු කියලා දෙන්නේ බ්රේල්වලින්ද නැති නම් සාමාන්ය ක්රමයටමද කියලා ඒ දවස්වල අපට ප්රශ්නයක් වුණා. පෙනීම සියයට සීයක්ම නැතිව ගියොත් පුතා කවදාහරි කරදරේ වැටෙයි කියලා හිතලා බ්රේල් ක්රමය මුල සිටම ඉගැන්නුවා. ටික දවසක් යද්දි අපි ගත්ත තීරණය ඉතා නිවැරදි බව වැටහුණා. 

මහනුවර කිංස්වුඩ් විද්යාලයේ විශේෂ අධ්යාපන ඒකකයට පුතාව ඇතුළු කළේ 1994 දී. එහි ඉගැන්වීම් කරපු ලලිත් දිසානායක ගුරු මහතා අපට ලොකු අස්වැසිල්ලක් වුණා. ඔහු පුතාට හො`ද පන්නරයක් ලබා දුන්නා. පුංචිම කාලේ එයා කියනවා "මම නීති" වරයෙක් වෙනවා" කියලා. ඒ වෙලාවට අපට හරිම දුකයි. අපි මොනවාවත් නොකියා පුතාගේ ඔලුව අතගානවා. පුතා සෙල්ලම් කරන්න ආස නිසා අපි ඇති තරම් එයාට සෙල්ලම් කරන්න කැමති දේ කරන්න ඉඩ දුන්නා. එයාට යාළුවෝ කවුරුවත් එයාට සෙල්ලමෙන් කොන් කලේ නෑ. බොහෝම හො`ද යාළුවෝ සුමුදුට පුංචි කාලේ ඉඳලාම ලැබුණා. ඇත්තෙන්ම සුමුදුට ගොඩක් උදව් කලේ යාළුවෝ."

"සුමුදු 6 පවසරේදී පාසලේ බාලදක්ෂ කණ්ඩායමට බැඳුනා. බාලදක්ෂ ක්රියාකාරකම්වලදී එයාට තරගකාරී බව තනිව කටයුතු කිරීම වැනි වැදගත් දේවල් ඉගෙන ගන්න අවස්ථාව ලැබුණා."

"කොළඹ විශ්වවිද්යාලයේ නීති පීඨයේ අන්ධ දරුවෙක් කියලා හිටියේ පුතා විතරයි. මටයි නෝනාටයි හිතේ ලොකු බයක් තිබුණා මේ දරුවාට අනිත් අයගේ පිළිගැනීම මොන විදිහට වේවිද කියලා. නීති පීඨයේ ළමයි 250 අතරේ ඇස් නොපෙනෙන එකම ළමයා සුමුදු විතරයි. අපේ සිතුවිලි සියල්ලම බි`ද දමලා, නීති පීඨයේ පුතාගේ වසරේ දරුවෝ විතරක් නෙවෙයි, කලින් වසරවල දරුවෝ ගුරුවරු සෙසු අය හැමෝම පුතා එක්ක යාළුවෙලා එයාට ගොඩක් උදව් කළා. අනිත් දරුවෝ හැම වැඩේදීම පුතාව එකතු කරගන්නවා. වෙනකක් තබා, විනෝද චාරිකාවක් හෝ වෙනත් ගමනක් වුවත් පුතාව එකතු කරගෙන යනවා. බොහොම හිත හො`ද දරුවෝ කොළඹ විශ්වවිද්යාලයේ හිටියේ. මේ හැම දරුවෙක්ම අද උපාධිය ලබලා සතුටින් ඉන්නේ ඒ අයගේ හිත හො`ද නිසයි." 

"සුමුදුට සිංහල පොත් කියවලා දුන්නේ එයාගේ අම්මා. මම ඉංග්රීසි පොත් කියලා දුන්නා. මම රැකියාව කරන්නේ රුවනි කන්ස්ට්රක්ෂන් ආයතනයේ සම්බන්ධීකරණ ඉංජිනේරුවරයෙක් ලෙසයි. ආයතනයේ ප්රධානියා වන පියදාස මනම්පේරි මහත්තයා මට පුතාගේ වැඩවලදී පුදුම සහයක් දුන්නා. ඔහු වැනි අය නිසයි පුතාගේ වැඩ කරගන්න අපට හැකි වුණේ."

පුතාගේ පොත් මොන තරම් කියෙව්වද කියනවා නම් නෝනත් මමත් නීතිය ගැන බොහෝමයක් දේවල් දැන් දන්නවා. මේ සමාජයට රටට හො`ද පුතෙක් දායාද කරන්න පුළුවන්වීම ගැන මම බෙහෙවින් සතුටු වෙනවා. පුතා මේ රටට වැඩදායි පුද්ගලයෙක් ඒ බව මට විශ්වාසයි."

පියෙකුගේ ප්රාර්ථනාවද එයම විය යුතුය. දරුවන් රටට වැඩදායි, පුද්ගලයින් කිරීමේ මූලික අඩිතාලම දමන්නේ දෙමව්පියන්ය. සුමුදුගේ දෙමව්පියන් අද මේ මහා ප්රභූ පිරිස මැද සතුටු කඳුළු වගුරවන්නේ ඔවුන් වැපිරූ බීජයේ සරු ඵල දරා ඇති බැවිනි.

සුමුදු ජයවර්ධනට සුභ පැතුම් දොරේ ගලා එන්නේය. සුමුදු අසලට ළංවන්නටවත් නොහැකිය. මහාචාර්යවරු, ආචාර්යවරු, උපාධිධාරින්, දෙමව්පියන් සියල්ලෝම ඔහු වටකොට උදම් අනති. සුමුදු ඇඟිලි තුඩගින් ඔහුගේ හිතමිතුරන් හ`දුනා ගනී. සවන්පත් ද ඊට රුකුල් සපයයි. එහෙත් සුමුදුගේ මුවෙහි රැඳි සිනාවෙන් දුර සිට දකින්නෙකුට වැටහෙන්නේ, දෑසින් දැක හ`දුනා සිනාසෙන්නා සේය. ඒ සුමුදුගේ හදවතේ වන අව්යාජ බව නිසාම විය යුතුය. ඒ දෑස අහිමි වුවද සොබා දහමෙන් සුමුදුට තිළිණ කළ ආශිර්වාදයයි. සුමුදු දැන් අපි කතා කරමු.

"ඇත්තෙන්ම මම විශේෂයෙන් කියලා දෙයක් කළේ නැහැ. දෑසින් නොපෙනෙන දේ සවනින් අසා අතපත ගා හඳුනා ගත්තා ඒ හඳුනා ගත් දෙයින් කළ යුතු දේ කළා. දැන් මම දන්නවා ජයග්රහණයන් ලැබෙන්නේ එවිටයි කියා.

මේ හැම ජයග්රහණයක්ම මම තනිව ලාබාගත් දේවල් නොවෙයි. මගේ අම්මා, තාත්තා ගමේ යාළුවෝ ඉස්කෝලේ යාළුවෝ, විශ්වවිද්යාලයේ යාළුවෝ, ගුරුවරු එකතු වෙලා මට ලබාදුන්න පන්නරයෙන් ලබාගත් ජයග්රහණයක්.

කිංස්වුඩ් එකේ ලලිත් දිසානායක සර් තමයි මේ පදක්කම් සම්මාන තෑගී උපාධි අතරට යන්න මට මුල් අඩිතාලම දමලා දුන්නේ. කපිල ප්රියන්ත සර් බාලදක්ෂ පුහුණු ක`දවුරු වලදී මට තනිව දෙපයින් නැගිටින්න පුහුණු කළා. බාලදක්ෂ කණ්ඩායම එක්ක එකතු වෙලා ඉද්දි "සුමුදුට බෑ" කියලා මොන අවස්ථාවකදීවත් කිව්වේ නෑ. සුමුදු තනිව සපත්තුවල ලේස් දාන්න, සුමුදු තනිවම සපත්තු දාන්න, වෙලාව, වේගය බොහෝම වැදගත්. තනිවම හොයාගන්න, කියලා කපිල සර් කියපු දේ මට මේ දැනුත් ඇහෙනවා. ආසියාවේ ප්රථම ජනාධිපති පදක්කම් ලාභී දෘෂ්යාබාධිත බාලදක්ෂයා ලෙස පිදුම් ලබන්නට මට ශක්තිය පන්නරය දුන්නේ, කපිල සර් ඇතුළු කිංස්වුඩ් මාතාව. මම අදටත් නුවර යද්දි මගේ ඉස්කොලෙට වැ`දලා යන්නේ. මගේ මුළු ජීවිතයම ගොඩ ගත්තේ මා තුළ මහා ආත්ම විශ්වාසයක් ගොඩනැගුවේ කිංස්වුඩ් විද්යාලය නිසයි." 

"ශිෂ්යත්ව විභාගයට ලකුණු 174 ක් ලබා ගෙන පාසලේ තුන්වන තැන දිනා ගන්නත් මහනුවර දිස්ත්රිකයේ 30 වන නැත දිනාගන්නත් හැකි වුණේ කොහොමද කියලා අදටත් හිතාගන්න බෑ. ඒ විතරක් නෙවෙයි, අ.පො.ස. සාමාන්ය පෙළ ප්රතිඵල ඒ සාමාර්ථ 10 ක් ලැබුණා. උසස් පෙළ කළේ කලා අංශයෙන්. උසස් පෙළ ප්රතිඵල ඒ 3 ක් ලැබුණේ මහනුවර දිස්ත්රිකයේ 7 වෙනි තැනත් දිවයිනේ 91 වෙනි තැනත් හිමි වෙමින්. නීතිය හදාරන්න මම උපරිම සුදුසුකම් ලබුවා. 2009-07-13 වැනිදා මම නීති පීඨයට ඇතුළු වුණා. මට තිබුණ ලොකුම අභියෝගය පුස්තකාලය පරිහරණය කිරීමයි. බ්රේල්වලින් ලියවූ නීතිපොත් තිබුණෙම නැති තරම්. පනත් සියල්ලක්ම මම බ්රේල් වලින් ලිව්වා. අනෙක් පොත් යාළුවෝ කියෙව්වා. මම එයාලට කරුණු පැහැදිලි කළා. අම්මා සිංහල පොත් කියෙව්වා. තාත්තා ඉංග්රීසි පොත් කියෙව්වා. සුමුදු වලිසිංහ, වසන්ත බණ්ඩාර, මලිත් මිරිහැල්ල මං වෙනුවෙන් මහා කැප කිරීම් කරපු යාළුවෝ. මගේ අම්මා තාත්තාට අද සතුටක් ලැබෙනවා නම්, එයයි අද මම ලබපු ජයග්රහණය." 

සුමුදුගේ වචන දැඩිය. ස්ථිරය. ඔහු මේ වන විටත් කොළඹ විශ්වවිද්යාලයේ නීති පීඨයේ සහය කථිකාචාර්ය වරයෙකුව කටයුතු කරයි. අන්තර්ජාතික නීතිය සහ තානාපතිවේදය පිළිබ`දව ඩිප්ලෝමාවක් ද හදාරයි. ඔහුට සිහිනයක් නැතත් ජීවිතය අර්ථවත් කර ගැනීමේ අරමුණක් තිබේ.

වසර හතරක් නීති පීඨයේ ඉගෙනුම ලැබු සිසුන් අතරින් සුවිශේෂී දක්ෂතා දැක්වු සිසුන්ගේ නම් පෙළ කියවද්දී සුමුදු ජයවර්ධනගේ නම තුන් වරක් එක පෙළටත්, තවත් ක්ෂණයකින් සිවු වරක් එක පෙළටත් කියවිණි. එහිදි ලද ඔහු ලද පදක්කම් හා ත්යාග නම්, මෙසේයි.

එපමණක්ද නොව කොළඹ විශ්වවිද්යාලයේ නීති පීඨයේ 1947 - 2014 දක්වා කාලය තුළ ප්රමුඛ පෙළ උපාධිය ලබා ඇති අට දෙනා අතරට එක් වීමටද සුමුදුට භාග්ය හිමිව තිබිණි.

මේ සා දැනුම් සම්භාරයකට උරුමකම් කියන්නට සුමුදුට හැකි වුයේ ඔහුගේ ඇති අධිෂ්ඨානයත්, උත්සාහයත් සාමුහිකත්වයේ බැ`දීමත් නිසාවෙනි. අවශ්ය උත්සාහය පමණි. දිරිමත් මිනිසෙකු කිකලකවත් ආබාධිතයෙක් නොවේ. සුමුදු ඒ ස`දහා වන අලුත්ම පරිපූර්ණ ලෝක ආදර්ශය බව විශ්වාස කරමි.

Dharmaraja-Kingswood emerged their victories in the Sri Lanka inter school chess championships 2013

U-19 chess team of Dharmaraja college, Kandy  won the first place in the Sri Lanka inter school chess championships 2013 organized by the chess federation of Sri Lanka while Kingswood College, Kandy able to won the third place in U-21 category.

Kingswood rugby ban release by SLSRFA

The President of SLSRFA- (Sri Lanka Schools Rugby Football Association) says Kingswood rugby ban has released and they can play as usually. 

Earlier Sri Lanka Schools Rugby Football Association (SLSRFA) has announced a one year ban for the Kingswood College rugby team that was involved in a brawl with St. Anthony’s College team during a Division-A game of the 2013 Singer Schools Rugby League.

Kingswood College is the oldest rugby playing school in Sri Lanka which also has a great history and rich culture. Despite the upset caused by this particular incident, there is no doubt that Kingswood College will always continue to be a part of this great sport and produce players of remarkable quality.

Rajans & Seetha Devi hockey champs

Under 15 Hockey team of Dharmaraja College Kandy emerged Kandy district hockey champions for the tenth year when they beat Sri Sumangala by goal to nil in the final.

Seetha Devi Balika Vidyalaya won the under 15 girls championship beating Samudra Devi Balika by 3 goals to nil in the final.

The third place was won by Kingswood College Kandy when they beat Manikadiwala central by 1 goal to nil in The boys category among the girls St. Anthonys Girls School beat girls high school by 3 goals to 2 to clinch the third place.

In the boys semi-finals Dharmaraja under 15 team beat Menikdiwala central by 3 goals nil to enter the finals while Sri Sumangala beat Kingswood by 3 goals to 1.

The tournament was conducted by the hockey committee of the Kandy district and it was concluded at the Peradeniya campus grounds on last Tuesday.
