CENTENNIAL ROCKS - CENTENNIAL RALLY OF KINGSWOOD SCOUTS



23rd to 26th October 2014

Organized by the 2nd Kandy Scout Troop, Kingswood College,Kandy


Introduction

     The 2nd Kandy Scout Troop was found on 4th of March 1914 is celebrating its’ centenary year of scouting this year. Continuing such a long tradition for 100 years is truly a remarkable achievement. The Kingswood Scout Troop known all around the country as well as in South Asia for its, remarkable achievement of hosting the oldest memorial Hike in South Asia and most probably in Asia the J.J.P.Dehigama Memorial Orienteering Competition.
So without doubt it is clear that Kingswood Scouts are not strangers to hiking. While celebrating 100 years of scouting we have reached another significant milestone in the J.J.P.Dehigama competition since we are going to host it for the 30th time this year.
Taking all these to account the Kingswood Scout Troop is ready to present the Scouts and Guides all around Sri Lanka a brand new experience. To celebrate the centenary year we are ready to host a 4 day program of hikes. The program will include a Night hike, a Survival Hike, water activities and the 30th J.J.P. Dehigma competition to conclude. A detailed description of the program, its structure time line is given in this document. We Hope your support in making this event a success.

The Program by Days

     It will be a four day program which will consist of 4 hikes with full of movements of adventure, Knowledge, thinking, commitments, power, teamwork, surviving, funny, culture and nature. The event is named as Centennial ROCKS and this will definitely be a major landmark in Sri Lankan Scouting history. 
    ☼  Day 1 - (23rd of October 2014):  Arrival of Scouts , opening ceremony and the Night Hike
    ☼  Day 2 - (24th of October 2014):  The Survival Hike
    ☼  Day 3 - (25th of October 2014):  Arrival Of Girl Guides and Scouts and the Water Hike
    ☼  Day 4 - (26th of October 2014):  30th J.J.P. Dehigama Orienteering Competition and the Closing  Ceremony.

The Objectives


     Running through the history 2nd Kandy Kingswood Scout troop have passed many important landmarks and at present it’s reaching the utmost milestone to complete 100 years of scouting which we will celebrate in 2014 in a grand manner by letting Sri Lankan scouts and Sri Lankan guides to experience a festival of hikes filled with adventure, explorations and knowledge. As per our theme we wish to recall pure scouting techniques which BP introduced and strengthen the scouting science for generate a strong youth generation to win modern challenges in the world. Hence summarizing objectives of the project are as follows, 
  •      ☼  To celebrate 100 years of Scouting by the 2nd Kandy Kingswood Scout troop.
  •      ☼  To celebrate the 30th J.J.P. Dehigama memorial orienteering competition.
  •      ☼  To celebrate completing 123 years for Kingswood College.
  •      ☼  Recall pure scouting for with the challenges of youth in modern world.
  •      ☼  To improve adventurous skills of scouts and guides of Sri Lanka.
  •      ☼  To develop bonds and friendship among scouts as well as guides.
  •      ☼  To offer a different experience apart from studying to students all around Sri Lanka
  •      ☼  To help development and persistence of Sri Lankan Scouting.
  •      ☼  To improve the public image of Kingswood Scout Troop and Kingswood College.
